What is ACMA and what do they do?
ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) was born in 2005 in order to found and investigate the operators whose activities are considered in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The first blocking request was made at the end of 2019 and during this time, Australian internet service providers have blocked more than 550 “illegal” gambling and affiliate websites.
In 2017, as a result of the new set of rules regarding the illegal offshore gambling, 170+ more websites were blocked.
On 18th Aug 2022, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced the addition of new domains to the blacklisted operators.
The new block targets both unlicensed offshore gambling operator and affiliate websites.
IS ACMA A USEFUL AUTHORITY?
Short answer: Yes
The protection that ACMA want to offer to Australian players is legit (mostly), especially if we are talking about addiction.
Gambling addiction can ruin your life if you are not able to control your impulsivity so don’t even visit an online casino if you know that you can’t control yourself!
BUT …
On the other side, if you are doing it for fun, from time to time and only gamble small amount that you can afford to lose, gambling can be fun.
A lot of trusted online casinos are considered “illegal” based on the 2001 Interactive gambling Act but are actually trusted by millions of people from all over the world.
So, that being said, we are against shady operators, we want all the scam operator to disappear from the market but also want to be able to enjoy some casino games if we want to.
Don’t forget to read full terms and conditions of the casino that you want to play at and after that just search some player reviews in order to make a clear opinion.
If you just want to take a look at one of the blocked websites, just read the following article on how to access blocked websites by changing your DNS’s. It will give you an idea of how easy is to bypass the blocking.
