Is this really an attempt to help the persons that fight with gambling addiction?
We don’t really know but surely that’s a great step forward!
If the Premier League will come to an agreement with the clubs and the “voluntary” ban of gambling sponsorships will pass, 9 Premier League clubs will have to change their shirt sponsors starting from the beginning of the new season.
WHICH CLUBS ARE AFFECTED BY THE BAN?
At the moment, only six of the top clubs ( Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham) seem to be willing to sign the voluntary ban as none of them have any gambling provider on their shirts at the moment.
Instead, the voluntary ban will only take effect immediately if at least 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs will sign the agreement.
It seems that all existing contracts will be allowed to be fulfilled, as long as the expiration date will not pass the 2024-2025 season.
Just few weeks ago, a DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) spokesperson said:
We are undertaking the most comprehensive review of gambling laws in 15 years to ensure they are fit for the digital age. We will be publishing a White Paper as part of a review of gambling legislation in the coming weeks.
We will keep you updated…
